According to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes more than two months before a new habit becomes automatic. However, the length of time it takes for a new habit to form also depends on the behavior, the person, and the circumstances.

The Health Styles Program is specifically designed to adapt to your individual needs and goals. We will work together as a TEAM to discover what foods are right for your body type, how to eat mindfully, and what obstacles need to be overcome in order for you to thrive.

When we form a habit, whether it's good or bad for us, it's due to engaging in a particular behavior repeatedly...until it becomes a new hardwired neural pathway. Once a habit becomes cemented like this, all we need is a simple trigger for our brains to tell us to perform the action, without much conscious thought behind it. When we brush our teeth, for example, we don't usually have to convince ourselves of why it's good for us in order to do it, because the habit is already second nature and registers in our brains as rewarding. However, when we become aware of a habit we want to change, like no longer eating daily ice cream...it can take an enormous amount of conscious effort and practice to build strong, new neural networks and replace the older ones. This process of habit change is also known as neuroplasticity. The Health Styles Program is designed with a keen understanding of the nature of habits and will help you get clear on how to identify ones in your life that either contribute to or take away from the healthy person you want to become.

Many people have a basic knowledge of what healthy foods are, yet struggle to put that knowledge into actionable steps that support their health goals. Research has shown that Health Coaches can play a pivotal role in bridging this gap between KNOWING and DOING. We are experts in facilitating behavior change in a way that empowers our clients to look inward and discover what might be holding them back from reaching their full health potential. In the Health Styles Program, I provide ongoing support and accountability to keep my clients on track with their goals as well as help them overcome obstacles that prevent them from making forward progress.
While the coaching process is co-collaborative in spirit, clients always have the autonomy to choose the direction they want to go and how they want to approach each situation that arises throughout our sessions. As a coach, I committed to bringing forth deep compassion, empathy, and unconditional positive regard for all of my clients, no matter what. I understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health and therefore encourage clients to come to each session with an open mind and willingness to learn and try different approaches before determining what works best for them.
